Antique Fairground Shooting Canon Target Unusually Large and Working Very Rare and Decorative item
For Sale in this LOT is a one off very rare and highly decorative antique handmade fairground folk art cast metal shooting target in working order. The item is unusually large and quite unique due to this fact. It is also working and mechanically perfect and a complete original fairground artefact. The item would have originally been used as part of a fairground attraction shooting gallery. The item would have been sprung loaded and a small amount of explosive would have been placed into the barrel section (pictured as a small cast iron cup shape). The target once shot at would trigger the Solider to drop his hand and the canon would fire (this original mechanism still works perfectly) and so the item is highly collectable and desirable by true fairground artefact collectors. The item does show wear and tear due to being kept outside before being obtained by a private collector in London many years ago. Please view the details of the condition below.
NOTE: This item is very rare and would make any fairground collectors collection that much richer, these items don’t come to market these days so we are very privileged to have this item in our store at The House of Antiques, ask questions on its condition before purchase.
Dimensions: W 36” x H 32” x D 5”
The item is completely solid and structurally sound, the item is antique and this is shown in the marks across item, fading and flacking of paint, distress in its metal plate now shows rust across most of its visual look. However the outline colour of the solider and canon are still visible as shown in the photos provided. The metal is all in one piece and the wood base that the metal plate is secured to is also in tact even though rusty and worn at the edges as shown in the photos.
